▪️TURNERS SYNDROME . 1 in 2,500 —->

I remember 14 weeks of our pregnancy being so exciting, I had just had my 12 week scan, everything was fine but I felt so anxious due to a previous loss around same gestation, I trusted my gut so I booked another private scan. We seen our baby, looking perfect as ever.. we left and I had an appointment a few days later at the hospital, nervous and excited but as I sat down with the doctor, she with heavy heart informed me our baby had signs of a genetic disorder, thick lining around her heart, lungs & neck, possibilities of down syndrome. An emotional rollercoaster began, I was sent to get another furthered ultrasound then to royal womens with my husband and his mum, we had another ultrasound there and a meeting. Upon the ultrasound, we seen our 15 week old baby waving and wriggling around, I thought “Our baby looks happy and healthy in there, we’ve got this, life can throw hurdles at us” I was so wrong. as the nurse grabbed me to discuss babies heart defect had actually made the left side of her heart stop working and she wouldn’t make it, time froze, that was the end of my healthy pregnancy, our baby taken way too soon from a genetic disorder I had no clue about.. Soon to be told turners syndrome effects 1 in 2,500 female babies. Unfortunately our babies heart couldn’t make it to earthbound, but many babies are born healthy with turners also.

I remember not having any knowledge, I had no idea this could happen, I was so oblivious. The questions, the grief and the what if’s that came with this, was endless. Then the reality of how genetic disorders effect so so many families sunk in. My heart hurt for them, for so many different cases around the globe.

This is my story, and why I feel so passionate about donations to children’s medical research institute . I wish I could do more for all.
