Felix's Story

In May 2023, at 28 week gestation, it was discovered I had no amniotic fluid surrounding my baby, Felix.

After specialist scans Felix was diagnosed with Renal failure and due to no amniotic fluid he would additional have severely underdeveloped lungs.  Through genetic testing we were told of his condition - Autosomal Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease.  A genetic disease that was inherited to Felix by inheriting maternal and paternal copies of the mutated PKHD1 gene.  The statistics around Autosomal Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease- 30% of baby's will pass away in utero with renal failure (severe category), 35% of baby's will pass away before their 1st birthday with end stage renal failure and the remaining 35% will be diagnosed with end stage renal failure before their 10th Birthday.

Felix was expected to pass away in utero before 32 weeks gestation.  At 32 weeks and 3 days (18th June 2023), I was granted an early delivery, I was able to spend 3 hours and 12 mins with my precious little boy before he passed away peacefully on my chest surrounded by love. Every step i do, I do for Felix.

This August, I’m taking on the Ks for Kids challenge - walking or running to raise funds for Children’s Medical Research Institute, supporting scientists who are working today to find cures for tomorrow.

Your donation will help keep labs running, research advancing, and hope alive for kids who need it most.

Every step I take is for them. Your donation will help me go the distance and fund vital research!
