Wear your Jeans for kids like Spencer
Spencer was a happy, healthy baby, but as he grew, his parents Harley and Tristram noticed he wasn’t reaching key milestones and had severe muscle weakness.
At just four years old, he was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a genetic condition that causes progressive muscle deterioration and a shortened life expectancy.
“We were just stunned because it wasn’t anything on our radar,” Harley said.
“The doctors were highlighting… it will be a shortened life span.’’
For Tristram, learning there was no cure was devastating. But visiting the Gene Therapy Research Unit at Children's Medical Research Institute gave the family something powerful, hope.
“That’s why we wanted to support Jeans for Genes,” he said. “This is almost Spencer’s legacy, helping future children in the same position.”
By wearing your jeans this August, you’ll help us find cures for genetic diseases and cancers that can save the lives of kids like James.
