100 Skips a Day

My Skipping Progress

Total Skips

3,100 Skips

Goal

3,100 Skips

100% Complete
I'm doing 100 Skips a Day for kids with genetic diseases and I need your help!
Every day this August I'm taking on the Jeans for Genes 100 Skips a Day Challenge.

It's for a really important reason: I want to help the 1 in 20 kids facing a birth defect or genetic disease, like cancer and cystic fibrosis. I'll be pushing myself this August because these kids need our help!

Every dollar raised from my challenge goes to Children’s Medical Research Institute and helps find treatments and cures that will save children’s lives. Your support will change the future for children living with genetic diseases!

Will you support my challenge? Please donate to my fundraiser now!

Final day

This is it! My last day. I can’t believe how I’ve been able to do this daily through this whole month! It’s a different kind of challenge trying to skip consistently and not miss days.

I used to feel heavy, didn’t think I could jump easily anymore but this helped me see that it’s still in me :) I am a little disappointed that the fundraiser stalled after the 10th day but it is an effort and I think I did better than I thought so it’s good.

Couldn’t do it myself too so I am grateful for all who have contributed. You guys are amazing! So this is me signing out now :)

Day 26

5 more days till the end!
I suddenly realised that skipping seems to be getting easier and faster. I still can’t do crosses but at least I don’t feel that heavy anymore :)

Day 25

What to say, 6 more days! Gosh… it really is heading into the last stretch!

Day 24

Instead of counting how many I’ve done, I can now start counting down the days! 7 more days till this campaign ends!

I’m so under the weather today, signs of a head cold, first day of my period and then the family last min decided to go to the beach where we were experiencing the cold air and we rented bikes to cycle for two hours.

Came back and the fam used up all the hot water for their shower so imagine my shock when the water didn’t warm up when it was my turn and towards the end started turning icy cold!

So in feeling sick and shivery and tired, I was so close to just say bugger this for today and move on but, in the end, I still did it. At 10.30pm, still shivering, I’ve done my skips.

And as I was scrolling my page trying to update, I’m reading these excerpts of stories of these really little kids and the illnesses they have to go through. What I’m experiencing now isn’t anywhere close to what they suffer through their illnesses. And it’s such a blessing that through the organisation, they are in the midst of healing or are there being healed already.

So I’m praying for a kind soul who will inject new life into the donations today. Reaching the goal I set is not the end of the journey. It’s the beginning and more is always going to be helpful.

Day 23

Head is feeling heavy, kept sneezing and just not feeling the best this morning. I had a good lie down and just before work started, I did my 100. It’s a commitment. It can be done.

Day 22

Getting closer but also realise that even though I am still updating, it isn’t as smooth as the earlier part of the fundraiser haha. I will still try!

Day 21

I realised that these days I’ve been sneaking a lot of skips in between busy moments! The fundraising part has stalled *sob* but I’m still working hard on the skipping bit! I haven’t been posting up on FB either.. wondering if people might have some fatigue about seeing it often…

Day 20

Urgh, I’m starting to update later and later. I forgot that I haven’t added my count yet even though I did skip earlier tonight. Since it’s late I won’t write more, but I did still fulfil the 100 skips!

Day 19

Feeling a little discouraged that the donations have stopped since the first week but I’ll still keep going. It is a promise after all.

Reading about the different children being diagnosed with illnesses such as rare cancer makes my heart ache. Again, I am thankful that both my kids are healthy. Prayfully, even though the amount I raise is punny in comparison to the great amount required, it can still help make a small difference.

Did the 100 skips again today! I think this is good to practice pelvic floor muscles 🤣🤣

Day 18

It’s getting closer! Definitely past the middle of the campaign. Still skipping and hoping that people will support. Running skips today.. slower but it is a work out.

Day 17

I missed jumping on the 16th urgh. If anything, this shows I’m so busy until I don’t have time to do skips! But the funny thing is, it just happens that the kids were playing around with my skipping on that Saturday and later my son ran in and said, “we’ve skipped the 100 skips for you today mummy so you don’t have to skip anymore!”.  Sorry son, I still gotta so today, on the 17th, I skipped 200 to make up the numbers.

I know I’m writing this past midnight so technically in the 18th day but I skipped in the afternoon, just that I wasn’t able to have the time to record! So doing it now :)

I did a 100 in one breath, paused before continuing in back skips but I had to stop at the 140th cos my breathing was getting heavy. Started having stitches at 160 and the last few were getting tough. Great leg exercises!

Day 15

I did a video post today. So awkward! But this time I manage to skip more smoothly on individual legs. Managed to squeeze in time just before the kids came back. Been so busy lately for some reason!

Day 14

Can’t believe I’ve continued this for 2 weeks in a row! Recent days have been so busy that it has been difficult to update it promptly. I actually skipped earlier today but didn’t have time to write.

Today I did forward skips, alternating each foot 10 before changing into both feet. I also did deeper skips so in the end, my calves started aching.

Day 13

I am a little upset that I wasn’t able to find time to do my skips. Things were just happening back to back and I had to work the night.

So today, I did 200 skips to make up for what I didn’t do yesterday. I did try to skip on one foot but my left ankle collapsed when I tried after a few skips so it was speed skipping backwards to see how far I could go before I tripped. I think I got to about 65 before that happened and 120 before I started getting stitches.

The fundraising seemed to have stalled but I still want to keep going

Day 11

Backward skips today. I think I do crosses better when backwards. Also hopped on one foot 10x before moving to the other foot. Was caught a few times.

It’s a special day today as we saw a double rainbow!

Day 10

Can’t believe I’ve done 1000 skips now!

It seems like a big number at a glance and it is! But when broken into 100 skips a day, it is so achievable.

I was suggested to try skipping on one foot and I truly was going to do that but a chance remark from the kids suddenly made me think “oh, I haven’t done it backwards yet!” So today, I skipped backwards and with one foot for a bit. But I kept tripping so in the end went back to two feet backwards but I’ll definitely try this again tomorrow!

Day 9

Happy National Day Singapore!!

It’s Saturday, I woke late and nobody’s at home cos they are all out at classes and what not so I woke myself up with another 100 skips.

Breathing heavily cos I succeeded in doing crosses without hurting my toes! But I had to jump higher or with more bounce so it’s heavy and clumsy but I did it.

Not yet reached goals but so close! Hoping somebody will chip in a little more :)

Day 8

Received notice that at least 1.4 mil have been raised so far! And we are in early days still. This is really encouraging :)

Today was a speed skipping day. I wanted to see how fast/long I could sustain, I got to 42 before I tripped. Oops!

Day 7

I did a video for FB today to show that I am skipping. It’s 3 so the kids are coming back and I’ve sneaked in a bit of time for this.

Again, a mix of everything but I stopped just twice this time! It is starting to feel smoother.

It’s doubles day today so I’m very glad for the people who donated. Thanks!

Day 6

Almost a week since I started this! Another 100 done. I sneaked in some skipping time during my work break. I have a sneaky feeling that I might have miscounted and probably jumped more than the 100.

Today is a mix of running skips, single hops, crossing feet and the usual skips.

Day 5

Getting harder to skip. My calves are definitely aching now. But that could also be due to me doing one to two hours  of garden work earlier .

Today I tried to do a mix of one foot hopping and then crossing and uncrossing feet. When I didn’t skip before, I felt heavy but now that I’m doing it a few days, it seems lighter. 100 a day isn’t much but when it adds up, it is getting harder :) still, early days

500 skips done

Day 4

I can feel the ache in my calves already. Doing regular crosses is also causing me to stop. I still get caught easily. I tried wearing fluffy slippers to protect the toes today - it kept falling off.

Another 100 down!

Day 3

Attempted to do crosses today.Did about 5 false starts before giving up. The elastic wire getting trapped by my feet really hurt my toes. I did the rest in normal skips.

The benefits of doing this in front of the kids was that they started to be interested. Miss L usually can’t skip and at the max did it about 5 in a row (she said she did 9 once). She’s now got 14 in a row and still attempting to beat her own record.

The wire rope still hurts a lot though.

Day 2

Once the kids were out of the house, I finally had some time to skip. This time I kept tripping probably ‘cos my jeans was a little long. But! Another 100 skips done, this time in a slow hop manner.

I’ve been thinking about whether I should try to increase my goal amount.. will people support?

Day 1

I did it in a shot after my Zumba class since I’m all warmed up. Glasses falling and all. At least now I know I can skip. Maybe we can experiment with different skipping methods next time.
