This year I am participating in the jeans for genes skipping challenge. 100 skips every day in August 🤞
This is to raise money for a really important cause, for the continued research for the 1 in 20 children facing a genetic condition.
With Ziggy as my inspiration.. my little guy, after extensive testing all we know is that he has a ‘presumed’ genetic condition affecting his growth. As of yet, the gene is unknown, that perhaps one day they may discover the gene but it may never be discovered. I don’t know what Ziggy’s future has in stall. There are no answers, no time lines, no road maps. We only know the now! Amongst the worry of what the near and far future looks like, I know that right now I have this beautiful 3 year old boy who completely captivates me with his whole being. Who I love so incredibly much, who I could just squeeze and kiss all day, a little boy who has blessed my life and opened me to a whole other world but I also know how limiting his life is in many ways, from how challenging it is for him to move, to how hard it is to actually go out, with all that going out entails with unique extra needs.
So, not only am I doing the 100 skips a day challenge. I am also challenging myself to get out of the house on dedicated days each week and skip somewhere new. To make some memories with my baby boy that doesn’t just entail drs appointments or physiotherapy.
I know that moving my body will improve my mental health, accomplishing something will boost that too.
Going out is usually quite anxiety provoking for myself, along with people’s stares or heartache that my baby boy can’t play at that park. Difficult parking or toilet/changing facilities. With every aspect combined quite often, it is easier to just stay home and play in the comfort of our safe space, but he needs to see more of the world and that’s why this August, I’m skipping!
To raise money for the continued research and care for children living with a genetic condition.
