I'm doing 100 Skips a Day for kids with genetic diseases and I need your help!
Every day this August I'm taking on the Jeans for Genes 100 Skips a Day Challenge.

It's for a really important reason: I want to help the 1 in 20 kids facing a birth defect or genetic disease, like cancer and cystic fibrosis. I'll be pushing myself this August because these kids need our help!

Every dollar raised from my challenge goes to Children’s Medical Research Institute and helps find treatments and cures that will save children’s lives. Your support will change the future for children living with genetic diseases!

Day 31

Finished my 10,000 skip goal today.   Not my finest skipping, but definitely a proud of myself moment.  I’m really pleased I did this challenge.  Thank you to everyone who has supported me, financially, physically and mentally to finish the month off strong.   You are all legends.

Day 30

Hard to believe the challenge is almost over.  One more day.  75 skips to go to meet my target of 10,000 skips.   I’ve had a few days off throughout the month.  A slightly sprained ankle.   A badly sliced finger.  An utterly exhausted body.   But the target was set at the start, and then revised a week later after I started to find my skipping mojo.   Am pretty proud of all I’ve achieved this month.  Longest skipping stretch in a row now stands at 101 skips.

Day 28

Another personal best tonight.  101 skips in a row!    Was going so well tonight.  A couple of longer runs on 50+ and then the whopper 101.   So happy with my progress.  When I reflect back on the start of the month and recall tripping over the rope every 3-5 skips.  I was so happy to make double digits back then.   It’s amazing how much my skipping fitness and coordination has improved in such a short time.

Home stretch now.  An extra 100 skips tonight.   Should have taken my skipping rope on my 7km walk this morning.  Will need to step it up a notch if I am to make 10,000 by the end of the month.

Not sure what day it is anymore

Well it’s been an eventful few days that put a stop to the skipping for a bit.  Managed 100 today and will hopeful be back at it tomorrow.

Day 22

With 10 days to go and 3000 skips to reach my target, I’ve added another 500 skips tonight.   Definitely feeling fitter and more capable of skipping for longer periods of time.   Really pleased with my progress.

Day 20

Yesterday was the first day I missed my skips.   Was working late and missed the midnight deadline.  Oops.  
Completed 750 skips today (although I missed getting them logged until day 21.

Definitely on the homeward stretch.   
Things I’ve learned along the way …
1.   Skipping is much harder than I remember.  
2. Skipping is really good aerobic exercise (as evidenced by how puffed I get).   
3.  Sometimes, you just have to put down the skipping rope and say ‘now is clearly now working for me’.

Turns out I’m still nursing that sprained ankle.  Will have to try post a photo of my skipping this week to show that I’m getting better.

Ankle feels a lot better today - ( I rolled it yesterday) so added 300 skips tonight.   More on the horizon for tomorrow.

Remembered to post today.  350 skips and I’m starting to get a bit sore.   Am pleased to be over half way towards my goal though.

Yesterday was the first day I accidentally missed getting my skips in, so I made up for it by doing 300 skips before breakfast this morning, and another 300 skips tonight.

Day 6

One week in - yay!    It’s funny, but I started this challenge to raise awareness, to help others.  Just like I always try to do.  And yet, with a personal best today of 400 skips, and the most consistent exercise pattern I’ve had since Covid lockdown days, I’m starting to look at this challenge a bit differently.   Maybe this is something I can do for myself too.  A positive thing.  A change.   After all, I struggled to do 5 skips in a row on day 1.  I actually wondered if I’d make it through the month.     And now I have knocked out 400 skips.  Not all at once, but in between putting away the washing, cleaning the table, and tidying the kitchen, I picked up the skipping rope each time I walked past and added another 50-60 skips.  I’ll see how I go over the next week, but who knows?   Maybe by the end of the month I will be aiming to knock out 1000 skips in a day.  For now though, it’s small steps and I’ll settle for a PB.   If you are reading this, Thursday 8th August is officially Jeans for Genes day and it is double donations thanks to Lowes who has offered to match every dollar donated.  So please help support the research and assistance  provided to children and families affected by genetically inherited conditions.

Day 5+

My mind started to wander while skipping today and eventually settled on another skipping fundraiser.  Does anyone remember Jump Rope for Heart?    I think I must have been about 9.

Definitely starting to get the hand of this.  A number of short bursts today.  73 in a row is my PB (and then I am wrecked 😂).

Day 3

I had to settle for 300 yesterday but I have added another 310  this morning and 210 this tonight.  That’s a whopping 500 skips for me today, and my calves are letting me know! I think I’ll be doing some stretches tonight.

Day 1

It is day 1 and I’ve kicked off the challenge with 207 skips before dinner.   Longest streak without tripping or stopping = 17.   Looking forward to improving.  Will see if I can add more later, but for now, I am puffed!
