I’m fundraising in memory of my son, Lucas.
So far I have completed 3,992 skips in
August for kids with genetic diseases
Total Skips
3,992 Skips
Goal
3,100 Skips
Why I’m skipping
I’ve signed up to do 100 skips a day throughout August to raise money for Children’s Medical Research Institute and help save more kids’ lives. Can you help by sharing this message with the people you know and asking them to donate too?
Jeans for Genes funds life-changing medical research, clinical trials, and support services to help turn incurable conditions into curable ones.
I care about the 1 in 20 Aussie kids who face a birth defect or genetic disease, like muscular dystrophy. Most people don't know what muscular dystrophy is or that it's a genetic condition present from birth, but raising awareness can change everything.
By supporting
Jeans for Genes today, you help shine a light on this condition, bringing vital hope to families and funding the research needed to find a cure for everyone living with this genetic disease.
There’s lots of work to do, but there is also lots of hope.

31st Aug
Day 31 and end of the challenge …
I did it! I skipped every day this month!!!
Some days were much much harder - especially the first week … I struggled to jump!
I learnt though skipping on the concrete and as so much easier than the grass!
Surprised myself and actually proud of myself!
Today 253 skips … I think if I forced myself I could have skipped a few more but, last week my goal today was to get 200 skips out, then last night I said to myself - let’s try 250!
Today is the first day of when my life turned upside down … so with my son in mind, this challenge was for us!
Thank you to hubby for believing in me and that I could do it :-)
… Thank you Jeans for Genes Day … you helped me get up and move for 31 straight days - it was either morning, day or night … something I never would have done.

Day 30
Wow, 30’ days of getting up, outdoors and moving!
Today I managed a total of 205!
Tbh, today was a hard day, with little sleep, feeling down, feeling a little “off and just not that excited to get up and do my skipping … I knew regardless of how I was feeling, I made a promise to myself that for the month I would try hard to keep moving every day … and with the support and donations- I also felt I needed to continue and with the month so close to an end, I had to get up and skip!
So thank you to those who have believed in me and kindly donated … you have kept me accountable and helped me to get up out of bed or off the couch every day this month.
1 day left to go … I cannot wait!
Bring it on!

Day 25
I reached 152 today …. Think that’s the most I’ve done so far :-)
Also looking at my skipping log, I noticed I entered a weird date of 30/11 with 104 … which then showed up between between 15 and 17 August … so I tried to edit that date but it wouldn’t update, so I had to cancel and reenter for the 16th.
Incase anyone notices that date out of order in my log book record.

1 week to go …
Today was a hard day …
The wave hit hard 😭 and I felt so flat, with no energy …
Got to 650pm … and I told myself tmw I’ll make up for today …
But!
My son said Mum I haven’t seen you skip today … and although I felt low, I put my shoes on and grabbed the slipping rope and went out back and did it.
Day 24!
1 week left to go.
I am not sure how the week ahead will go, but with Lucas in my thoughts and the encouragement from hubby and reminder from my big boy, then the support from those who have donated … hopefully I won’t give up.
This week will be the real challenge …
I miss you little man 💔

10 days to go …
Day 21 and I skipped out 140 (in one go!!!) before the rope got caught on my foot!
I don’t think I will manage to master the toe tap skipping within those last days though … definitely can’t get my coordination and head around toe tapping, and jumping over rope at the same time 🤪

Still going …
Managing to keep up the daily skipping the past few days, actually had been quite motivated and proud of how I am doing … though today I contemplated a day off - making up for it tomorrow crossed me mind …
Just the weather, dark, gloomy and rainy plus cold … but feeling little off.
Whilst it played in my mind …
Decided I’d get outdoors in the evening - and that I did.
Yay.
To be honest, glad I did them.
I have a feeling it’s going to be a slower CBF few days ahead (which I knew would arrive and usually in the past has stopped me from getting outside and moving)… so I’ll try to keep the spirits up but we shall see … if I do miss a day, I will make up for it the day after I promise.
The updates may not happen though.
We shall see …
Thanks for following :-)

Halfway !!!
I’ve made it to day 16 and done at least 100 skips each day!
Today I tried hard to get the 100 out in one go and I managed to do this - 104 before the rope got caught up on my jelly legs.
We went out on a walk earlier today too - and just as we made it back to where we began our walk, I saw a white feather on the grass. To me, a little sign from above from my Angel, telling me “you can do it” 🪶 💫
Where we went today, was a place we walked together as a family back in January 2019 … preCovid, pre losing my littlest love.
Grateful today was kind.

I did it!
Today I managed the full 100 skips in one go .., well first I started with 8 … haha - warm up ;-)
But then gosh I have as in Fire!!!
Hahaha.
So proud of myself today.
Don’t expect that every day going forward but compared to the first day, it’s pretty darn good!
Doing this for us, me and you Lucas.
I hope you saw my determination.
We just keep going - one day at a time.
I love you little man ✨

Not yet giving up :-)
Still getting tired (legs) and out of breath, only by Day 12 I have managed to get 60 skips out before the rope gets caught, but in my case - my legs just needed a break lol.
I have had a few low days, and thankfully, this challenge I’ve put upon myself - but now with actual donations, I has helped me get up, outside and move - even if on those days it’s just to do the 100 skips.

days 7 & 8
Day 7 - 7th August
Today was a hard day - emotionally difficult today but also, not feeling well :-(
But I promised I would skip daily and would do what I could - thankfully- skipped my 100! Yay for me.
Day 8 - after an early afternoon walk, decided would Bea great time to add my skipping after my walk as my body had warmed up.
120 today - not yet able to do more than 50 straight.

Day 6 - double donations day
Sadly I couldn’t double my skips for the day …
I managed 60 skips before the rope got caught up.
Then 82 - puffed out lol.
And finally 110 all up.
Good effort - I had also managed to get out for a short afternoon walk.
Let’s hope I feel great later.
Thanks for the support and donations today. Grateful 💖

Day 3,4 & 5
Day 3 - started off a breeze for the first 20, and I was thinking “I got this” … then it became hard and a few stops and starts … but I did it!
Day 4 - it’ was a wet rainy day - the other days I have chosen to skip on the grass “softer on my knees??” Is my thinking … but due to the rain I wasn’t sure if it would be too wet/muddy - so I skipped undercover and in concrete and wow! I managed 50 straight with out the rope getting caught up - I had to stop at 50 as I was tired and out of breath (& worried about the impact on my knees lol).
So I moved to the lawn, thankfully only a little wet - and got through my next lot but had some interruptions.
Interestingly I noticed I can skip so much better in the concrete than in grass.
Day 5 - another wet day from rain and because it had rained over night and day i didn’t attempt any skipping on the grass - straight into it and finding the first half manageable but then I get tired and out of breath for the last half … but smashed them out.
I am hopeful that in a week, it will all start to feel a little “easier” and possibly I would have a better technique.
So far - Proud to have reached Day 5.

Day 1 & 2
Day 1
Harder than i actually thought … struggled to do the 100 skips straight in one go - so split them across the morning.
I did it!
Proud of myself.
Day 2
Well after yesterday I knew it wasn’t going to be easy.
This time I did some stretches a little beforehand to warm up my muscles 💪 hehehe
And with a few stops, for a breath or because the skipping rope got caught in my jacket hood or because I had to unravel my always coiling skipping rope - I got to my 100 skips for the day. No more than that - I gave it my all today.
Unsure if I I pulled a muscle in my thigh but hopefully not.
Yay for getting through Day 2.
