Why I’m skipping
I’ve signed up to do 100 skips a day throughout August to raise money for Children’s Medical Research Institute and help save more kids’ lives. Can you help by sharing this message with the people you know and asking them to donate too?I was fortunate enough to grow up a healthy child but my younger sister wasn't so lucky. She was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis on the day she was born and has and will battle with the disease for the rest of her life. As we have grown up i have watched her struggle, seen her constantly go 1 step forward 2 steps back, not understand why she can't live the same life her friends can, witnessed the heart break my parents have had to endure. But along with all that pain I have also seen the progression of research and technology and how treatments over the years have evolved and changed her life and others dramatically! Thanks to developing research that saved her and turned her life around not so long ago, she now lives a very similar life to the rest of us and is expecting a child of her own in the coming months. I can only hope that her baby never has to go through what she has experienced in her life and that has prompted me to try fund-raising for the first time. To give these kids a brighter future.
I care about the 1 in 20 Aussie kids who face a birth defect or genetic disease, like cancer. Most people don’t know that cancer is caused by changes in genes—but almost everyone will be touched by it. So, the research you and I support today may one day help someone we know, someone in our family.
There’s lots of work to do, but there is also lots of hope.
