Walking 30km for Genes

Did you know that 1 in 20 Aussie kids are born with a genetic disease or birth defect? That’s one in every classroom!

In 2025 my friend Katie’s son passed away from a genetic disorder that he was born with. DiGeorge Syndrome is a genetic disorder cause by the absence of a small piece of chromosome 22. It’s characterised by a range of symptoms including, congenial heart defects, poor immune function, low blood calcium, cleft palate and developmental delays.

Enoch was a beautiful boy. He was only 3 when he passed, as children who are diagnosed with this only have a life expectancy of 3 years. He love watching Hercules and Mickey Mouse, he would laugh and smile and just be the cheekiest boy out. He was starting to say “Mum” and “Go”. He was headed for his 13th open heart surgery. Starting to take steps without the support of the couch or any assistance.

This August, I’m taking on the Ks for Kids challenge - walking or running to raise funds for Children’s Medical Research Institute, supporting scientists who are working today to find cures for tomorrow.

Your donation will help keep labs running, research advancing, and hope alive for kids who need it most.

Every step I take is for them. Every step I take will be for him. Your donation will help me go the distance and fund vital research!
