Why Waverley Public School P&C Is Supporting Jeans for Genes

Did you know that 1 in 20 Australian children are born with a genetic disease or birth defect? That is approximately one child in every classroom.

This year, the Waverley Public School P&C is proudly supporting Jeans for Genes and raising funds for the Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI).

Genetic conditions affect children and families in many different ways. Within our own school community, Sora, a Year 3 student, lives with a rare genetic eye condition called Leber Congenital Amaurosis (LCA). She has severe vision loss, which may progress over time, and currently there is no cure available for her condition. Despite these challenges, Sora continues to thrive, learn and actively participate in school life.

Sora’s experience is one example of why medical research is so important. CMRI scientists conduct research across many areas, including childhood cancer, epilepsy, cystic fibrosis, developmental conditions, genomics and gene therapy. Their work aims to improve the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of serious conditions affecting children.

Through this P&C fundraiser, our school community has an opportunity to come together and support research that may change children’s lives.

Every donation, large or small, will help keep laboratories operating, research progressing and hope alive for children and families affected by genetic conditions.

Please support the Waverley Public School P&C Jeans for Genes fundraiser by donating and sharing this message with your family and friends.

Together, our school community can make a meaningful difference.

Donate. Share. Support Jeans for Genes. Thank you!
