Hops for Hiba

Why we’re skipping

I’m taking on the Jeans for Genes Skipping Challenge for my daughter, Hiba.

Hiba was born with Isovaleric Acidaemia (IVA), a rare genetic condition that has shaped so much of her life. From a very young age, she’s faced challenges that most children never have to think about. But if there’s one thing Hiba has taught us, it’s that being different doesn’t stop you from chasing your dreams.

She discovered a love for skipping, and it’s become so much more than a sport. It’s given her confidence, strength, friendships, and the chance to show that a rare diagnosis doesn’t define what she’s capable of. Watching her grow through skipping has been one of the greatest privileges.

That’s why this challenge means so much to me. Every skip is for Hiba, and for every child living with a rare genetic condition. By raising funds for Jeans for Genes, we’re helping support the research that gives families hope, advances treatments, and works towards a future where children like Hiba have every opportunity to thrive.

Hiba skips to prove that rare is powerful. I’m skipping because she inspires me every single day.
