Why we’re doing Jeans for Genes’s Bake it Blue
We’re so proud to be doing Jeans for Genes Bake it Blue for the second year.
This incredible cause raises money for the Children’s Medical Research Institute and helps save more kids’ lives. Can you help by sharing this message with the people you know and asking them to donate too?
In January 2023 we experienced every parent’s worst nightmare… being told that your child’s medical condition is life threatening.
Our beautiful Brodie was admitted to Perth Children’s Hospital at just 6 days old, with a sudden, mystery illness. After the most terrifying 24 hours, he was diagnosed with an incredibly rare metabolic condition - Ornithine Transcarbamylase Deficiency (OTC).
OTC impacts the body’s ability to process protein correctly and causes the levels of ammonia in the bloodstream to increase dramatically.
For Brodie, the damage that ammonia causes to his tiny organs was catastrophic and at just 2 weeks old, he passed away in our arms. 💔
While our time with Brodie was short, the impact he has on our lives is immeasurable. We speak of him every day and Eliza is so proud to be his big sister.
The genetic research you and I support today may one day be the difference between life or death for the 1 in 20 children born with a genetic condition in Australia.
There’s lots of work to do, but there is also lots of hope.
