Arky our 2 year old son was diagnosed at 7 months old with Primary adrenal insufficiency, in his case caused by a rare genetic condition that we were unknowingly carriers of. In his case his body doesn’t produce cortisol which plays a critical role in the bodies functioning, regulating our blood sugars, heart rate and blood pressure for example.
We have been incredibly lucky he was diagnosed relatively young and he is able to live a relatively normal life. But he will require medication for his entire life and a simple illness or injury puts him at risk of adrenal crisis.
There are many children out there that aren’t as lucky, with rare genetic illness that need more research and funding to give them the best possible chance.

Children’s Medical Research Institute, supporting scientists who are working today to find cures for tomorrow.
