Why I’m doing Jeans for Genes
I've signed up to Jeans for Genes to raise money for the Children's Medical Research Institute and help save more kids' lives. Can you help by sharing this message with the people you know and asking them to donate too?
Here's just one story explaining why this cause is so important:
Sora is 7 years old and a Year 1 student. She has a genetic condition called Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA), which is a rare condition. LCA is the most common cause of inherited blindness in childhood, affecting two to three out of every 100,000 babies. It impacts both the peripheral rod cells, which allow night vision, and the central cone cells, responsible for fine detail and color vision.
Sora's eye condition is going to get worse as time goes by, and she may lose all her vision when she gets older. To stop that, she really needs to get the right treatment, but currently, there is no cure for LCA.
She is the only Braille user in her classroom. Sora loves school and enjoys her days, but she has always wished to see what unicorns look like and the colors of rainbows. Despite her limited vision, she loves drawing, and her favorite drawings are of rainbows and unicorns. She is also a great singer.
Medical research is crucial for helping children like Sora to see the world like other children do. Even now, children are being diagnosed with the same condition and struggling to see the world. Continuing to support medical research and finding a cure is vital for the future of children with genetic conditions. There’s a lot of work to do, but there is also a lot of hope. Please support researchers to continue their work for children with genetic conditions.
