Why I’m doing Jeans for Genes’ Bake it Blue

1 in 20 Aussie kids face a birth defect or genetic disease. That's 12 kids born every minute worldwide.

I’ve signed up to do Bake it Blue. This raises money for Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI) to find treatments and cures for these lifelong or incurable illnesses.

My daughter was born with a very rare genetic defect called situs inversus totalis (SIT). It affects approximately 0.01% of people in the world.

All her organs from her heart down to her large intestine are on the opposite side of where they should be.

We received a lot of support from the genetic team at the hospital. From free genetic testing, diagnosis, resources, and support to setting us up with specialists for ongoing management. They wouldn’t have been able to help us to the extent they did without CMRI.

While we have been incredibly lucky to avoid the major complications this defect can cause, a lot of other families aren't so fortunate.

Most people don’t know that cancer is caused by changes in genes—but almost everyone will be touched by it. So, the research you and I support today may one day help someone we know, someone in our family.

Join me in helping the Children’s Medical Research Institute in allowing kids to be kids.

Together we can make the incurable, curable!
