Why I’m doing Jeans for Genes
I’ve signed up to Jeans for Genes to raise money for Children’s Medical Research Institute and help save more kids’ lives. Can you help by sharing this message with the people you know and asking them to donate too?
I was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called
Williams Syndrome when I was 5 years old. Williams Syndrome affects every system in my body, and I have had multiple surgeries and procedures since I was a small child. I have difficulties learning at school and learning life skills, and it can be tricky for me to regulate my emotions.
Many babies and young children who have Williams Syndrome like me have very serious heart defects and have to undergo major surgery on their heart when they are very young.
I care about the 1 in 20 Aussie kids who, like me, face a birth defect or genetic disease, like cancer. Most people don’t know that cancer is caused by changes in genes—but almost everyone will be touched by it. So, the research you and I support today may one day help someone we know, someone in our family.
There’s lots of work to do, but there is also lots of hope.
