Why I’m doing Jeans for Genes

I’ve signed up to Jeans for Genes to raise money for Children’s Medical Research Institute to honour our second born daughter's thirtieth year - Elsie was born, and died, in 1994. The same year Jeans for Genes Day began.

Elsie was born with a genetic syndrome, one which we'd never heard of, and we didn't know we were both carriers of. We had no idea how long Elsie would live. Would it be fifteen hours? Fifteen days? Fifteen weeks? It was eight and a half days. Eight and a half days to pack a life into. How do you do that?

I care about the 1 in 20 Aussie kids who face a birth defect or genetic disease. The research you and I support today may one day help someone we know, someone in our family.

There’s lots of work to do, but there is also lots of hope.
